Sanitation, Department of
The New York City Department of Sanitation provides street cleaning services, for a fee, for film productions that require cleaning before filming begins and after it is finished.
Film companies may contact the Department of Sanitation’s Public Affairs Office by phone to request street cleaning services from the Department of Sanitation. The production company that requests street cleaning will be billed for the Department’s services.
Film productions that take place in New York City are responsible for cleaning up after their shoots and ensuring that garbage is not left behind on City property after production has concluded. If the street is not clean after filming has concluded, the film company will be fined.
Film productions are responsible for the following:
- Keeping sidewalks, tree pits, grass strips, etc. clean of trash or debris
- Making sure that gutter areas along the perimeter of the film production area are kept clean
- Cleaning all space 18 inches from the curb into the street
- Ensuring that no trash or litter is left behind
Note: Littering, sweeping, throwing, or casting any materials such as ashes, garbage, paper, dust, or other refuse or rubbish into or upon any street or public place, vacant lot, etc. is illegal.
