Street Cleaning Information for Film Productions & Street Events
Film production/event sponsors and vendors must arrange for:
- Trash collection
- Separation and collection of recyclable materials
New York City is not responsible for trash and recycling collection after film productions or street events.
Permitting agencies provide relevant information about cleaning rules and private waste carters when permits are issued. They can also provide more information about hiring DSNY to assist with cleanup for a fee.
The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) works with permitting agencies to make sure NYC’s cleanliness rules are followed.
Film companies and street event organizers can contact DSNY’s Cleaning Operations Office for more information about street cleaning services. The film company will pay for this service. Services at cleaning_operations@dsny.nyc.gov.
Film productions and street events must clean sweep their location after activities.
Film productions must:
- Keep sidewalks, tree pits and grass strips free of trash
- Clean the gutter areas around the site
- Clean 18 inches from the curb into the street
- Remove all notification letters, and No Parking/Towing signs and tape
- Make sure nothing is left behind
All trash must be put in containers with secure lids for a waste carter to collect. Do not use DSNY trash bins.
If the street is left dirty, the permit holder may be fined.
