Nurses need a certificate to work in a nursing home. This certificate comes from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

To get a certificate, a nurse must:

Training is not needed if the nurse is already a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Feeding assistants do not need this certificate.
