About the Program
The Gowanus Business Relocation Grant Program was created to help small businesses that were displaced and suffered a direct business loss as a result of the city’s rezoning of the Gowanus area in Brooklyn.
Qualified businesses may be eligible to receive grants for up to 10 years from the adoption of the Gowanus Neighborhood Plan on November 23, 2021, to help offset relocation costs involved in moving from the Gowanus Business Area to an eligible move-in site within New York City.
Grants will not exceed $50,000 and are dependent on available funding.
Eligibility Requirements
Businesses may apply for a grant by submitting a complete application to the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS).
Applicants must be within the designated block and lots of the rezoned area and demonstrate their eligibility to the satisfaction of SBS.
Key documents required as part of the application include, but are not limited to:
- Copy of lease for the move-out location
- Evidence of direct business loss(es) which can include business financial statements, federal and local tax statements, and other documentation requested by SBS to verify loss
- Itemized list of moving/relocation costs, including date, dollar amount and corresponding invoice(s), and proof of payment (e.g. canceled checks, bank statements, credit card statements, etc.)
- Any other documentation requested by SBS to ensure program qualification
