You need a Temporary Waterfront Event Certificate for events on City-owned waterfront property. You need this certificate if:
- 75 or more people gather indoors
- 200 or more people gather outdoors
These events can be for:
- Religious purposes
- Recreational purposes
- Educational purposes
- Political purposes
- Social purposes
- Eating and drinking
The certificate is for events lasting less than 30 days.
To get this certificate, you must meet Fire and Building Code rules.
How to apply:
- Apply at least 10 business days before your event.
- If you need construction, apply at least 20 business days before you need the Construction Permit.
- Tell the Fire Department City of New York (FDNY) at least 5 business days before the event.
- FDNY must approve your application before the Department of Small Business Services (SBS) gives you the certificate.
The Mayor's Office of People with Disabilities (MOPD) may check your event for accessibility.
